Rohit Shetty, a director well-known for his action-packed and humorous films, is taking a different approach with his upcoming project. This new film is inspired by the life of the renowned police officer Rakesh Maria, blending gritty action with commercial appeal. As production nears completion, the title of the film remains a closely guarded secret, although insiders suggest it will soon be revealed.
Sources say the film is likely to be named Maria IPS, a title that resonates with the film’s focus on the life of the police officer. According to those involved, both Shetty and star John Abraham agree this title fits perfectly and carries a commercial vibe that will attract audiences.
Film insiders hinted that while several title options were considered, Maria IPS is the frontrunner. An official announcement, including the title and the film’s release date, is expected within a month.
Those involved in the project are enthusiastic about its progress. Shetty aims to introduce a fresh style of commercial filmmaking, distinct from his previous works. John Abraham has reportedly delivered a standout performance, with much of the filming taking place in real locations throughout South and Central Mumbai.
Notably, scenes depicting intense police station drama and high-stakes interrogations were filmed at Ellora Studios near Mumbai during a two-week schedule in July and August 2025.
Once Maria IPS wraps up, Shetty plans to shift gears to the highly anticipated comedy film Golmaal 5, with shooting set to start in February.
