Actor Sayani Gupta is making her directing debut with the short film Aasmani, which is gaining attention on the international film festival circuit. Over the next two months, it has been selected to be featured in ten festivals across four different countries.
Gupta, who wrote and directed Aasmani, will showcase her film at various festivals in the United States, Canada, Japan, and India. Some of the notable festivals where it will be screened include the Washington DC South Asian Film Festival, the Tokyo International Short Film Festival, the India International Film Festival of Boston, the Chicago South Asian Film Festival, and the Atlanta International Film Festival.
In India, Aasmani is competing in the Short Film Competition at the International Documentary and Short Film Festival of Kerala (IDSFFK) and was also part of the India competition at the Bengaluru International Short Film Festival. Additionally, there are four more festivals expected to announce selections soon.
The film has already earned accolades at several events. It won the REMI Special Jury Award for Best Children/Family Film at the 59th WorldFest-Houston and the Best Short Film Audience Choice Award at the Inde Meme Film Festival in Austin, Texas. It also took home the Best Children/Family Film award at the Cannes Film Festival of the World, among other recognitions.
Aasmani tells the touching story of the relationship between a lively grandmother and her granddaughter, with their powder-blue car playing a key role in their adventures. The film explores themes of love, loss, and friendship through their bond.
