Apple Appoints Amar Subramanya as New VP of AI

In a notable change in leadership, Apple has appointed Amar Subramanya as its new Vice President of AI, succeeding long-time executive John Giannandrea. This move highlights Apple’s growing emphasis on enhancing its artificial intelligence features across its devices.

Subramanya brings a wealth of experience, hailing from Microsoft, where he held the position of Corporate Vice President of AI. Before that, he worked at Google for 16 years, notably leading engineering for the Gemini assistant. His extensive background in both research and large-scale AI product deployment positions him well for his new role.

He will report to Craig Federighi, Apple’s Senior Vice President of Software Engineering, and oversee critical projects, including Apple’s Foundation Models, machine learning research, and efforts towards AI safety and evaluation. These initiatives are central to Apple’s goal of creating smarter and more personalized digital experiences for its users.

Apple CEO Tim Cook acknowledged Giannandrea’s contributions since 2018, thanking him for his role in enhancing Apple’s AI capabilities. “AI has always been essential to Apple’s strategy,” Cook said, welcoming Subramanya to the leadership team. He emphasized that Subramanya’s expertise will be vital as the company aims to develop a more personalized Siri and other AI-driven features.

With Subramanya on board, Apple is signaling its commitment to advancing AI technology and providing users with improved, personalized experiences. This transition comes at a crucial time as the company prepares for the next generation of intelligent technology.

Giannandrea, who previously led AI efforts at Google, played a key role in shaping Apple’s AI framework. He will continue to advise Apple until his retirement in spring 2026, ensuring a smooth transition as Subramanya takes the helm.
