Sunrisers Hyderabad Faces Injury Challenges Ahead of IPL 2026 Matches

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) is grappling with yet another injury setback as their overseas bowler, David Payne, has been ruled out for the entire IPL 2026 season due to an ankle injury. This news comes shortly after the announcement of Pat Cummins’ potential return to the squad. Payne had joined SRH as a replacement for fellow Australian all-rounder Jack Edwards and has played in two matches, taking two wickets but suffering from a high economy rate of 14.

Payne’s participation included the opening game against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and a win against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Now, SRH will need to look for another player to step in for him.

“David Payne has been ruled out of TATA IPL 2026 following an ankle injury. We wish him a swift recovery,” SRH stated in an official announcement.

Injury Struggles for SRH

Earlier in the season, the team dealt with a major setback when their key player, Pat Cummins, was out due to a lingering back injury. However, Cricket Australia has reported that Cummins is now on the mend. A recent report by Cricbuzz reveals that Cummins is slated to take a fitness test, which, if successful, will allow him to return to the squad. There’s hope within the franchise that he could make his return in a match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at home.

“Cummins will be tested on Wednesday back in Australia. If he passes, there’s optimism he could be on the field again soon. He is expected in Hyderabad by April 17, just ahead of SRH’s next game on April 18,” the report indicated.

In addition to Payne, England’s Brydon Carse has also been ruled out due to a hand injury. Dilshan Madushanka has been brought in as his replacement. On a positive note, SRH has found encouraging bowling talents in Praful Hinge and Sakib Hussain, both of whom made an impact in their recent win against Rajasthan Royals.

As the tournament progresses, SRH’s ability to cope with these injuries will be crucial for their performance.
