New Delhi: Focus on Urbanization to Boost India’s Economy
Amitabh Kant, India’s former G20 sherpa, emphasized the importance of dynamic urbanization in reaching the country’s ambitious goal of a $30 trillion economy. Speaking at the Spark Forum’s Charcha 2025, he underlined that improving health and nutrition is also vital to creating a skilled workforce.
He remarked, “To transform India into a $30 trillion economy, we need to engage all sectors. While services are important, smart urbanization will significantly drive job creation.”
Shamika Ravi, a member of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister, pointed out the gap between education and skill. “There are many educated individuals, but the market demands skills. Industry surveys indicate that the lack of skilled workers is a major barrier to business growth and job creation,” she shared.
Amit Yadav, the Secretary in the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment, stated that India’s progress should be assessed by how it supports its most vulnerable communities. Kumaresh Pattabiraman, the country manager of LinkedIn India, added that growth depends on how effectively Tier II and III cities can harness opportunities.
The discussions highlighted the urgent need for thoughtful strategies in urban planning, skilling, and social inclusion to foster a robust economy.
