Nicki Minaj Speaks Out on Christian Persecution in Nigeria
Rapper Nicki Minaj is receiving widespread appreciation for using her voice to highlight the ongoing persecution of Christians in Nigeria. Ahead of her upcoming appearance at the United Nations alongside U.S. Ambassador Mike Waltz, human rights lawyer Knox Thames expressed gratitude for the attention that Minaj and other celebrities, including Bill Maher, are bringing to this serious issue.
Thames noted that the challenges faced by Christians in Nigeria have persisted for years with little acknowledgment. “The tragedy in Nigeria has been overlooked for far too long. I am thankful for unexpected allies like these celebrities bringing awareness to the situation,” he stated.
Former President Donald Trump recently declared Nigeria a “country of particular concern” due to the alarming rise in violence against Christians in the region. He highlighted the significant threat Christianity faces there, emphasizing the mass killings that have occurred. Trump posted on Truth Social that the United States cannot be passive while such violence unfolds globally.
Minaj expressed her appreciation for Trump’s statement, saying it filled her with “a deep sense of gratitude.” She emphasized the importance of religious freedom and respect for all beliefs, stating, “We don’t have to share the same beliefs to respect one another.”
On Tuesday, Minaj will address the UN to raise awareness about the plight of Nigerian Christians. Waltz, a fan of Minaj, shared his thankfulness on social media, recognizing her influence in shining a light on these atrocities. Minaj responded with assurance that she and her supporters will continue to stand up against injustice.
In a powerful statement, she said, “We’ve been given our influence for a reason. There’s a greater purpose at work.”
This collaboration between Minaj and U.S. officials showcases the growing recognition of the need to confront religious persecution on a global scale.
