Venezuela Deploys Forces as U.S. Warships Arrive in the Caribbean

Venezuela Boosts Military Readiness Amid U.S. Naval Movements

Venezuela is ramping up its military presence, deploying units and gathering weapons in reaction to the U.S. sending warships to the Caribbean. The Venezuelan government calls this initiative “prolonged resistance,” with small military groups positioned at over 280 sites to conduct sabotage and guerrilla tactics, as indicated by various sources and planning documents reviewed by Reuters.

President Nicolás Maduro has accused the U.S. of trying to remove him from office and has committed to defending Venezuela against perceived aggression. This military response comes as the U.S. Navy’s USS Gerald R. Ford Carrier Strike Group has entered the U.S. Southern Command area to enhance military operations in the region.

In a bid to combat drug trafficking, President Donald Trump has ordered targeted strikes on vessels suspected of transporting illegal drugs, hinting at potential ground operations in Venezuela. The U.S. Navy stated that the increased military presence will help monitor and disrupt illicit activities threatening U.S. safety and prosperity.

Despite the U.S.’s superior military resources, some Venezuelan military leaders are struggling to support their troops, even negotiating with local farmers for food due to shortages. Reports suggest Venezuela’s defense strategy may rely on unconventional methods, given their challenges in sustaining a traditional war effort.

Russia has expressed its readiness to support Venezuela and has called for a de-escalation of tensions. The situation remains fluid as both nations navigate these military and political challenges.
