Robertson Acknowledges Challenges for Liverpool in Title Race After City Defeat
Liverpool defender Andy Robertson has recognized that the defending Premier League champions face a tough journey ahead in the title chase following a 3-0 defeat against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday, November 9. Robertson played in the match, where City showcased a dominant display, with Erling Haaland, Nico Gonzalez, and Jeremy Doku finding the net.
This loss marked Liverpool’s fifth in the Premier League this season—surpassing the total number of defeats they faced last season. Moreover, it was their seventh defeat out of their last ten matches across all competitions. In a conversation with the club’s website, Robertson stressed that while the current standings aren’t the main focus, the team must start accumulating points consistently.
“We’ve put ourselves in a tough position,” he admitted. “But I believe no team will pay much attention to the league table until we reach the halfway point.”
Robertson emphasized the importance of securing points regularly, saying, “Once we start doing that, we can see where we stand by Christmas.”
‘No Talk of Titles Yet’
As it stands, Liverpool has only 18 points, placing them eighth in the league and eight points behind the leaders, Arsenal. However, Robertson insisted it’s too soon to discuss the title, given how early it is in the season.
He mentioned there’s currently no conversation about the title among the players. “Talking about the title this early isn’t feasible, no matter our standing. We need to win games consistently before that can even be considered,” he explained. “It’s simply not a topic in the locker room right now.”
Looking ahead, Liverpool is set to face Nottingham Forest when the Premier League resumes after the international break.
