Pakistan Dominates South Africa in Second T20I Match
Pakistan showcased an impressive performance on Friday, defeating South Africa by nine wickets in the second T20I match held in Lahore. This victory levels the three-match series at 1-1.
The match began with Pakistan’s bowlers taking charge, restricting South Africa to a mere 110 runs. Left-arm pacer Salman Mirza, playing his sixth T20I, shone brightly with the new ball, grabbing 3 wickets for just 14 runs. He dismissed Reeza Hendricks, Tony de Zorzi, and Matthew Breetzke in a fiery opening spell. Naseem Shah and Faheem Ashraf provided great support, applying pressure with their clever use of slower deliveries.
Quinton de Kock struggled again, falling early to a catch off Naseem, and South Africa quickly found themselves in trouble at 23 for 4 within the first five overs. Dewald Brevis was the standout performer for South Africa, scoring 25 runs off 16 balls, but he too was dismissed by Faheem, who ended the match with impressive figures of 4 for 26. As the innings progressed, South Africa couldn’t recover from 66 for 6 and were eventually bowled out for 110.
In response, Pakistan made the chase look effortless. Saim Ayub and Sahibzada Farhan gave a solid start, adding 54 runs for the first wicket. Farhan played cautiously, while Ayub showed his attacking flair, scoring his first T20I fifty amid the cheers from the home crowd. A highlight of his innings came in the ninth over, where he smashed Ottneil Baartman for 21 runs, including two sixes and two fours.
After Farhan’s dismissal, captain Babar Azam stepped in and helped guide the team to victory. Babar also achieved a significant milestone, becoming the highest run-scorer in T20Is, surpassing Rohit Sharma’s record.
Ayub finished the match unbeaten as Pakistan completed their chase with 41 balls to spare, sealing the win in style.
This exciting result sets the stage for a thrilling decider on Saturday, with both teams eager to take the series lead. South Africa will need to revisit their batting strategies, while Pakistan aims to maintain their strong showing in both batting and bowling.
