U.S. Military Strike Targets Drug Smuggling Vessel, Killing Three Suspected Terrorists
In a recent military action, three suspected narco-terrorists were killed in a U.S. strike on a drug smuggling boat linked to Colombia’s National Liberation Army (ELN). The announcement was made by Secretary of War Pete Hegseth on Sunday.
The strike took place on Friday in international waters, as directed by President Donald Trump. Hegseth stated that the vessel was known for its involvement in illegal drug trafficking and was following a recognized route for narcotics distribution. At the time of the strike, three men associated with the terrorist activities were on board.
Hegseth confirmed that all three individuals were killed, and fortunately, no U.S. forces were injured during the operation.
Insight into the Ongoing Campaign Against Drug Cartels
Hegseth also shared unclassified video footage documenting the strike’s moments. He compared the Colombian ELN to the notorious Al Qaeda, asserting that both use violence to further their agendas and threaten national security.
“The cartels operate like the Al Qaeda of the Western Hemisphere, employing brutality to impose their will and endanger our communities,” Hegseth stated. He emphasized the U.S. military’s commitment to treating these organizations as terrorists, stating they will be actively hunted down.
Colombian President Gustavo Petro, however, disputed the claim that the vessel belonged to the ELN. He described it as a fishing boat belonging to a local family and expressed concern over the loss of innocent life. Petro urged for accountability, questioning the justification behind the strike that killed a humble fisherman from Santa Marta.
This latest strike marks a continuation of the Trump administration’s military initiative against drug-smuggling vessels, with at least 31 fatalities linked to these operations since they began last month. A recent strike against another suspected drug-carrying submarine resulted in the deaths of two more individuals and the capture of two others.
As this campaign evolves, it underscores the serious challenges faced in combating drug trafficking and the violent organizations that perpetuate it.
