Prime Minister Modi Expresses Condolences Over Nepal’s Heavy Rains

On Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared his sorrow regarding the tragic loss of lives and damage caused by heavy rains in Nepal. He emphasized that as a close neighbor, India is prepared to offer any necessary assistance during this difficult time.

At least 40 people have tragically lost their lives across various eastern regions of Nepal, with five individuals reported missing due to landslides and flooding that began overnight.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority of Nepal reported that the majority of the fatalities—37 in total—occurred in different parts of Ilam district, a region affected by significant landslides following Saturday night’s severe rainfall.

In a message posted on social media platform X, Prime Minister Modi expressed his concern: “The loss of lives and damage caused by heavy rains in Nepal is distressing. We stand with the people and Government of Nepal in this difficult time.”

He reiterated India’s commitment to support Nepal as a friendly neighbor and first responder, assuring that help would be available as needed.
