Tragic Death of a Child Linked to Cough Syrup in Rajasthan

In a heartbreaking incident, a six-year-old boy in Churu, Rajasthan, passed away after using the cough syrup dextromethorphan. This tragic event marks the fourth death associated with this medication in the state over the past ten days.

The boy was admitted to the hospital on October 2, suffering from convulsions and breathing difficulties. Despite passing standard quality tests, state health minister Gajendra Singh Khimsar emphasized the need for further investigations into the syrup’s safety.

The series of unfortunate incidents has raised alarm among parents and healthcare professionals, prompting discussions about medication safety and regulations in the region. As the community mourns, officials are under pressure to ensure that such tragedies do not occur again.
