Putin and Kim Meet in Beijing After Military Parade
Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un had a meeting in Beijing on Wednesday. This occurred shortly after both leaders participated in a Chinese military parade celebrating the anniversary of World War II’s end.
The meeting took place at the Diaoyutai state guest house, where they traveled together from a formal reception, according to the Kremlin.
During their discussion, Putin praised North Korean soldiers for their bravery, claiming they had aided Russian troops in the conflict in Ukraine. Reportedly, about 15,000 North Korean troops have been sent to support Russia, alongside military supplies like missiles and artillery.
Kim noted that the collaboration between North Korea and Russia has grown significantly since they signed a strategic partnership last June. Although he didn’t directly mention the war in Ukraine, Kim expressed his commitment to assist Russia, saying he would consider any support as a duty.
This meeting also marks Kim’s first visit to Beijing since 2019. He was joined by senior officials, including Foreign Minister Choe Son-hui. The visit follows a meeting between South Korean President Lee Jae Myung and former President Donald Trump in Washington, where they discussed strengthening their cooperation to address North Korea’s growing nuclear capabilities.
The gathering of these leaders highlights their intent to strengthen ties and collaborate on military and strategic interests.
