Bengali star Victor Banerjee has launched a petition to ensure the smooth release of Vivek Agnihotri’s upcoming film, The Bengal Files, in West Bengal.
The film, intended for screening on September 5, 2025, aims to uncover a challenging chapter in the history of Bengal and India. However, recently, the trailer for the movie faced an unexpected halt during its launch in Kolkata, raising concerns among supporters.
Banerjee expressed his apprehensions about potential obstructions to the film’s release in his home state. He noted, “We are worried that the screening might again face hurdles. Such actions threaten artistic freedom and deny people their right to know the truth and think freely. We urgently call upon the Honorable President of India to ensure that the screening happens without any intimidation, safeguarding the rights of both artists and audiences.”
This appeal highlights the ongoing discussion around the freedom of expression in the arts, especially regarding sensitive topics. Banerjee’s commitment to this cause shows his dedication to preserving the integrity of artistic work in India.
