Trump: Hostages Will Only Come Home Once Hamas is Defeated

Trump Calls for Action on Israeli Hostages as Ceasefire Talks Continue with Hamas

Former President Donald Trump stated on Monday that the remaining Israeli hostages from Hamas will only be released when the terrorist organization is “confronted and destroyed.” This comment comes as Hamas claims there have been advancements in ceasefire discussions, despite tensions remaining high.

Negotiators from the U.S. and Israel left Qatar last month after Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff expressed doubts about Hamas’s commitment to a ceasefire, suggesting they were not negotiating honestly. In a post on TRUTH Social, Trump emphasized the need for decisive action: “The sooner this takes place, the better the chances of success will be.” He also recalled his own role in previously securing the release of hundreds of hostages and highlighted his successes during his presidency.

In Middle East developments, Hamas announced that it has accepted a new ceasefire proposal from Arab mediators, but Israel must approve it. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu responded, saying that Hamas is under intense pressure after Israel’s plans to reoccupy certain areas in Gaza.

“I hear the media reports, and you can take one conclusion: Hamas is under enormous pressure,” Netanyahu stated in a translated video. He recently visited Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) commanders, expressing appreciation for their efforts in the ongoing conflict.

Regarding ongoing negotiations, a diplomat familiar with the talks informed that recent pressure on Hamas had yielded significant progress in reaching a potential agreement, retaining most of an earlier proposal that Israel had accepted.

Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty mentioned that mediators are working hard to revive a ceasefire proposal that would involve releasing some hostages and establishing terms for a long-term resolution. Meanwhile, senior Hamas officials indicated they are open to various options for a deal.

Despite proposals on the table, Netanyahu has pledged to continue military efforts until all hostages are safely returned and Hamas is disarmed. Hamas insists it will only release the remaining hostages in exchange for a durable ceasefire and withdrawal of Israeli forces.
