Celebration of India’s 79th Independence Day in Washington D.C.
The Indian Embassy in Washington D.C. celebrated India’s 79th Independence Day with a vibrant flag-hoisting ceremony at India House. The event brought together many members of the Indian American community to honor this significant occasion.
Ambassador Vinay Kwatra emphasized the day’s importance, referencing the President’s address to the nation. The celebration featured a rich cultural program that highlighted India’s diverse heritage. Performances included classical Odissi dance by seasoned dancers from the Mayor Dance Academy and a heartwarming musical medley by students from the Gandharva School of Music.
Additionally, the Embassy took the opportunity to recognize young talent by awarding winners of a children’s painting and essay competition. A special exhibition on the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign provided guests with fascinating insights into the history of the Indian national flag.
This gathering was not just a celebration but also a moment to reflect on India’s journey and achievements, showcasing the strong bond between India and its diaspora in the United States.
