Filmmaker Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri, known for his impactful work on The Kashmir Files, recently launched the trailer for his upcoming film, The Bengal Files. This new drama, produced by Agnihotri along with Abhishek Agarwal and Pallavi Joshi, is part of the Files trilogy and promises to be a powerful exploration of India’s history. The trailer was unveiled in Kolkata on August 16, 2025, a date selected to mark the anniversary of Direct Action Day, a significant and tragic event in India’s past.

Direct Action Day, which took place on August 16, 1946, resulted from a call by the Muslim League for a separate Muslim homeland, leading to widespread violence in Calcutta. Agnihotri mentioned the importance of this date, noting that it honors those who defended Hindu communities during that dark time.

The trailer for The Bengal Files makes a bold statement, echoing the troubled history of West Bengal. It showcases gripping visuals, testimonies, and impactful dialogues. One notable moment features a voice declaring, “Yeh Pachim Bangal hai, yaha do constitution chalta hai, ek Hinduao ka, ek Musalmanon ka,” highlighting the deep divides present in society.

Agnihotri called the film “a wake-up call,” stressing that its goal is to prevent Bengal from becoming another Kashmir. He emphasized the importance of launching the trailer in Kolkata to authentically portray the untold stories of Hindu experiences. His words also hinted at the film’s urgency, stating that Bengal’s story may be haunting after the experience of Kashmir.

Actress Pallavi Joshi, who stars in the film, expressed that The Bengal Files aims to shed light on harsh realities that need to be addressed. She believes the performances in the film draw from genuine emotions, making the narrative even more compelling.

Veteran actor Mithun Chakraborty shared his thoughts, describing the film as an unexpected revelation that has the potential to impact viewers significantly. He sees cinema as a medium for change and connection.

Producer Abhishek Agarwal reiterated the film’s mission: to reveal neglected truths and historical events pertaining to Bengal. He believes that every viewer across the nation will resonate with the film’s story, emphasizing the need for society to confront hard truths rather than remain silent.

As the trailer concludes, a haunting question lingers: “Kyu Azaadi ke 80 saal baad bhi hum ussi communal politics se ladh rahe hai? Kya hum aazad hai?”

The Bengal Files features a talented cast including Mithun Chakraborty, Pallavi Joshi, Anupam Kher, and Darshan Kumar. The film is set to be directed by Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri and will hit theaters on September 5, 2025.
