In a unique moment during the Shpageeza Cricket League (SCL) on July 22, Hassan Eisakhil faced off against his father, the well-known all-rounder Mohammad Nabi. The highlight of the match came when Hassan hit a spectacular six off Nabi’s bowling. The SCL, an annual T20 tournament organized by the Afghanistan Cricket Board, features eight teams made up of Afghan senior players, U-19 talents, and international players.
This father-son showdown took place in a match between the Amo Sharks and Mis Ainak Knights. Opening for the Sharks, Hassan was in great form, scoring 52 runs off just 36 balls, helping his team reach 162 runs. In the ninth over, when Nabi bowled, Hassan confidently struck the ball into the stands, bringing cheers from the crowd.
However, it was Nabi and his team who ultimately celebrated victory. The Knights chased down the target successfully, winning by five wickets with 18 balls remaining. Nabi sealed the win with a six of his own, leading the Knights to the top of the standings.
Nabi has expressed his desire to play alongside his son for the Afghanistan national team. Earlier this year, he shared his dream of competing together during the Champions Trophy. “It’s my dream. Hopefully, we can make it happen,” Nabi stated. He emphasized the importance of hard work and setting ambitious goals, encouraging Hassan to strive for excellence.
If Nabi and Hassan manage to share the field in international cricket, it would be a historic moment for Afghan cricket, building on a legacy that many sons have followed from their fathers.
