Changes Made to “Special Ops 2” Before Release
It’s not unusual for Indian films and web series to face edits from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), and the new release, Special Ops 2, is no exception.
This action thriller focuses on cyber terrorism, featuring Tahir Raj Bhasin as the antagonist. According to sources, Bhasin’s character is a cybercriminal looking to exploit the data of UPI (United Payments Interface) users for malicious purposes. This detail was even part of the show’s trailer.
However, the term “UPI” has been altered to “OBI” in the final version of the show. The original trailer has been taken down, and a new one has been released, which includes the modified term and announces the updated release date.
An insider mentioned that due to the sensitive nature of the topic, the producers might have received instructions to avoid mentioning UPI. This change, along with the postponement of the show’s release from July 11 to July 18, likely allowed time for the necessary edits.
Despite the changes, the insider believes it doesn’t detract from the story, as viewers can still understand the villain’s intentions. Interestingly, terms like “Reserve Bank of India” and “China” have been allowed in the dialogue.
Special Ops 2 also features actors like Kay Kay Menon, Karan Tacker, Saiyami Kher, Prakash Raj, and more. It premiered on July 18 on JioHotstar. The first season was released in 2020, followed by a mini-series titled Special Ops 1.5 in late 2021.
