Marc Andreessen, co-founder of the venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz (known as a16z), has recently voiced strong opinions about leading universities like Stanford and MIT, as well as the National Science Foundation. In a private group chat with AI experts and officials from the Trump administration, Andreessen referred to these universities as “largely political entities undermining American innovation.” He claimed that Stanford “forced my wife out” from her position at its Center on Philanthropy and Civil Society without consideration, suggesting that this decision could cost the institution around $5 billion in future donations.
In another message, he asserted that universities have “declared war on 70% of the country” and warned they would face consequences for this stance. He specifically mentioned “diversity, equity, and inclusion” (DEI) efforts and immigration policies as harmful and politically dangerous. This criticism aligns with his earlier support for Donald Trump’s presidential campaign, a sentiment echoed by a16z co-founder Ben Horowitz. Maguire described Mamdani in a controversial tweet as an “Islamist” from a culture that he claims endorses dishonesty.
