Jamie Smith Shines with Record-Setting Knock Against India

England’s wicketkeeper batsman, Jamie Smith, made history with a stunning score of 184 not out on Day 3 of the second Test at Edgbaston, Birmingham. His innings marked the highest score by an England wicketkeeper in Test matches, breaking Alec Stewart’s previous record of 173 against New Zealand in 1997.

Smith stepped onto the pitch when England was struggling at 84 for 5, after Mohammed Siraj took out key players Joe Root and Ben Stokes in consecutive balls. Facing a hat-trick ball, Smith managed to get off the mark right away, hitting a boundary off his first delivery. He quickly moved into double digits with another four against Akash Deep.

ENG vs IND 2nd Test Day 3 Highlights

Both Smith and fellow batsman Harry Brook were active at the crease, working well to rotate the strike and sending bad deliveries to the boundary. Smith launched an aggressive attack on Prasidh Krishna, scoring 23 runs in one over and shifting the momentum back to England’s favor.

In a short time, Smith raced from 25 to 49 runs, bringing up his fifty off just 43 balls. He continued to dominate against Krishna and also took on spin bowlers Washington Sundar and Ravindra Jadeja. Smith reached his second Test century in just 80 balls, making it one of the fastest for England.

Brook also reached his hundred in the second session, and the pair built an impressive partnership of 303 runs for the sixth wicket. Unfortunately, the stand ended when Brook was bowled by Akash Deep for 158. Smith remained not out on 184 as England’s innings wrapped up at 407 runs.

This performance has firmly placed Jamie Smith in the record books and highlighted his potential as a crucial player for England.
