England’s World Cup Preparations Hit by Equipment Heist
England’s plans for the 2026 FIFA World Cup have taken an unexpected hit due to the theft of training equipment on its way to Kansas City. This unfortunate incident happened just days before the team is set to play Croatia in their tournament opener.
The Football Association (FA) is currently evaluating what exactly was lost after thieves broke into vehicles meant to deliver the gear to Swope Soccer Village in Missouri, before the team’s arrival on Saturday. The missing items reportedly include training balls, boots, and other vital gear.
The shipment had just traveled from the team’s initial training camp in West Palm Beach, Florida, and was supposed to arrive in time for their first practice in Kansas City. Instead, FA officials are now scrambling to account for what was taken and are working to find replacements.
Reports indicate that only one football remains from the shipment. Concerns have also been raised that the boots of prominent players like captain Harry Kane and midfielder Jude Bellingham may have been stolen.
An article highlighted, “England was a victim of a bold World Cup theft after players’ boots went missing from a van prior to their first training session in Kansas City.” It further noted, “Along with the boots of top players, essential training equipment was compromised, leaving only one football behind.”
The theft didn’t just stop with playing gear; important analysis tools, whiteboards, and even massage tables were included in the stolen shipment, complicating the team’s preparations.
This unfortunate timing is a significant challenge for head coach Thomas Tuchel, as England gears up to face Croatia in Dallas on June 17. Kansas City is meant to be the team’s group-stage base, where they planned to establish routines and finalize their preparations for the tournament.
Now, however, the team’s focus has shifted to recovering the missing items and minimizing any disruptions to their training.
Local security personnel are reportedly looking into the possibility that individuals involved in transporting the cargo may have had a role in the theft. The FA is collaborating with local police as investigations are ongoing.
Authorities responded to the scene on Friday night and have made two arrests related to the incident.
Despite these challenges, England’s players are scheduled to participate in their first full training session on Sunday as they continue gearing up for their World Cup matchup against Croatia.
