Trump Reiterates Role in Preventing India-Pakistan Conflict: “It Could Have Led to Nuclear Catastrophe”

Trump Talks About His Role in India-Pakistan Tensions

On Friday, former US President Donald Trump spoke about his perceived influence in reducing tensions between India and Pakistan. In a press conference held in the Oval Office alongside Elon Musk, Trump claimed that he played a significant role in preventing a possible conflict between the two nations.

“We stopped India and Pakistan from fighting,” Trump said, emphasizing that he believed the situation could have escalated into a serious crisis. He expressed gratitude towards the leaders of both countries, as well as his own team. Trump mentioned that discussions about trade were essential, stating, “We can’t trade with people that are shooting at each other and potentially using nuclear weapons.” He praised the leaders for understanding the gravity of the situation, which he claimed helped ease the conflict.

He also remarked on the current global situation, referring to the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine. “We can fight better than anybody. We have the greatest military in the world,” Trump asserted, highlighting the strength of the US military and leadership.

This statement followed a recent claim by the Trump administration in a New York court. They stated that a "tenuous ceasefire" between India and Pakistan was reached after Trump intervened, offering both countries access to US trade to prevent a potential war.

However, Indian officials refuted Trump’s assertion. On Thursday, an Indian representative clarified that trade discussions were not part of conversations with the US during the military clashes. External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal explained that discussions focused solely on the military situation and not on trade.

He added that the ceasefire was established through direct conversations between military leaders of both India and Pakistan, underscoring that it had nothing to do with trade negotiations.
