Tharoor’s Firm Stance on Terrorism
Congress MP Shashi Tharoor has recently emphasized that India will not back down against acts of terrorism, stating that the nation will "respond" if further attacks occur. This statement follows a series of warnings directed at Pakistan regarding its involvement in terrorism.
Tharoor made his remarks during an event hosted by the Indian embassy in Panama, where he stressed the importance of living without fear, aligning his message with the teachings of Mahatma Gandhi. He underscored the necessity for people to stand up for their rights and uphold their values, particularly in the face of terrorism.
He remarked, "We must stand up for our beliefs and live without fear. Freedom from fear is essential. The attacks we face from terrorists, who think they can achieve a political or religious agenda by harming innocent people, cannot be tolerated. Even the land of Mahatma Gandhi will not simply turn the other cheek; we will respond decisively."
Throughout his delegation’s activities, Tharoor has consistently reiterated India’s commitment to combating terrorism, particularly from Pakistan.
Criticism of Pakistan
Earlier, Tharoor’s delegation met with Panama’s President Jose Raul Mulino and Foreign Minister Javier Martinez Acha, showing them images of Pakistani army officials attending the funerals of terrorists killed during Indian military operations. He criticized Pakistan, highlighting how individuals in uniform were mourning for those identified as terrorists.
"This is the same nation claiming innocence while publicly mourning for people connected to acts of terror. You don’t mourn for strangers," Tharoor stated.
He also referenced the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, mentioning its intent to disrupt India and the growing economy of Kashmir. "This attack was executed to fulfill a cynical agenda, seemingly pursued solely by the Pakistani military to undermine our country and harm Kashmir’s tourism," he added.
Tharoor noted that his friend, India’s Ambassador to Washington, remarked that Pahalgam had more tourists than Aspen, Colorado, highlighting the region’s thriving tourism industry.
The all-party delegation, led by Tharoor, includes members from various political parties, aiming to promote India’s global outreach initiative on Operation Sindoor and to send a strong message about unity and cooperation in the fight against terrorism.
