Lucknow Super Giants Reflect on Season’s Lessons After Final Game

Lucknow Super Giants captain Rishabh Pant urged his team to take valuable lessons from a disappointing Indian Premier League (IPL) season following their final match, a consolation victory against Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad. In his post-match comments on May 22, Pant acknowledged that his team struggled at key moments and highlighted the importance of moving forward with determination.

The Super Giants kicked off the season well, securing five wins in their first eight matches. Unfortunately, a four-match losing streak midway through the tournament dashed their hopes of making the playoffs. Injuries to several key players, particularly bowlers like Mohsin Khan, Akash Deep, Avesh Khan, and Mayank Yadav, significantly impacted their performance. While some of them returned later, the lack of stability in the bowling lineup proved to be a major setback.

During his address, Pant recognized that lapses in concentration and poor execution at crucial times hurt the team’s chances. However, instead of dwelling solely on the negatives, he stressed the importance of learning from these experiences to build a stronger, more resilient team for the future.

“I’m happy with our performance overall. We showed that as a team, we can play quality cricket. We had moments when we could have qualified, but that’s part of the game. We need to learn and improve,” Pant said after the match.

Lucknow also managed to spoil Gujarat Titans’ chances of finishing in the top two by winning by 33 runs in their thirteenth league match. Australian opener Mitchell Marsh delivered a standout performance, scoring a stunning 117 runs off just 64 balls, marking his first IPL century and leading LSG to a daunting total of 235 for 2.

On the bowling side, New Zealand pacer Will O’Rourke, who joined the team late in the season as an injury replacement, made an impressive debut, claiming 3 wickets for 27 runs and helping to limit GT to 202 for 9, despite a spirited 57 from Shahrukh Khan.

Pant expressed optimism about the team’s batting depth, mentioning, “Getting strong performances from players like Mitch, Markram, and Pooran was encouraging. Although we had our fair share of fielding issues, we will learn from them and keep moving forward.”
