Yashasvi Jaiswal Credits IPL for His Six-Hitting Success
Young Indian cricketer Yashasvi Jaiswal has acknowledged the significant role the Indian Premier League (IPL) has played in enhancing his ability to hit sixes. This 23-year-old batting sensation made headlines in 2024 after setting a new record for the most sixes hit during a bilateral Test series against England. Jaiswal launched a remarkable 26 sixes across five matches, surpassing Rohit Sharma’s previous record of 19 sixes established in 2019 during a series against South Africa.
In addition to his Test achievements, Jaiswal also broke the record for the most sixes in a single calendar year by striking 36 maximums in 2024, surpassing Brendon McCullum’s record of 33.
When asked about the secret behind his impressive six-hitting skills, Jaiswal expressed his gratitude towards his IPL team, the Rajasthan Royals, for providing him with a strong platform to develop his game. He emphasized the importance of guidance from coaching staff, particularly mentioning Zubin Bharucha for his support over the years.
"IPL has helped me a lot to improve my ability to hit sixes. I really appreciate the Rajasthan Royals for giving me a great environment to practice and hone my skills. It’s a collective effort from many people, and I also put in a lot of work to achieve this," Jaiswal shared in an interview with Forbes India.
Looking ahead, Jaiswal spoke about his aspirations in One Day Internationals (ODIs) after making strides in the Test and T20 formats. He expressed enthusiasm over his recent ODI call-up.
“I’m really excited and hopeful to be part of the ODI team. Whatever happens, I will focus on the present and take things as they come,” Jaiswal said.
He has been named in the Indian squad for the ODI series against England and is also set to play in the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Jaiswal joins Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill as one of the openers in the team. Fans are eager to see if he will make his ODI debut in the upcoming series against England.
