Canada and Mexico Prepare for Trump’s 25% Tariffs – Which Sectors Will Feel the Squeeze?

Consumer Prices May Rise Due to New Tariffs

U.S. President Donald Trump announced that starting today, a 25% tariff will be applied to goods from Canada and Mexico. This decision comes as these two nations are not only allies but also significant trading partners with the United States.

As trade between the U.S., Canada, and Mexico grows stronger, it has reached impressive levels. In 2023, their trade relationship is expected to exceed $1.8 trillion (€1.73 trillion), overshadowing the $643 billion (€617 billion) in trade that the U.S. conducted with China during the same period.

Experts warn that these new tariffs will likely lead to increased prices for consumers. Businesses often pass on the cost of tariffs directly to customers, which means shoppers might soon notice higher prices on a variety of products.

This strategic move aims to reshape trade dynamics in North America, but it remains to be seen how it will affect everyday Americans as they navigate these changes in the economy.
