Washington State Takes Action Against T-Mobile for Data Breach

Washington state has initiated legal proceedings against T-Mobile US, Inc. due to allegations of overlooking cybersecurity risks that led to a massive data breach in 2021. This incident reportedly affected around 79 million people across the United States.

Social Media and Technology Updates

In other news, President-elect Donald Trump is looking into an executive order that could save TikTok from a potential ban in U.S. app stores, which is expected to take effect in just four days. This possible ban raises concerns for nearly 17,000 employees working for TikTok in the U.S., creating an atmosphere of uncertainty about the app’s future.

Meanwhile, Jimmy Donaldson, known as MrBeast, is in discussions with various billionaires about potentially buying TikTok to prevent its closure in the U.S. However, Tesla investor Gary Black has voiced worries over Elon Musk’s interest in acquiring TikTok’s U.S. operations.

In the tech industry, Apple Inc. is experiencing a downturn in its market share in China, largely due to a drop in iPhone shipments, as noted by supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

Microsoft and AI Innovations

Microsoft Corporation has launched a new AI tool called 365 Copilot Chat. This revamped chat service, previously known as Bing Chat Enterprise, now offers AI agents and a flexible pay-as-you-go plan, aiming to enhance user experience.

As wildfires rage through Southern California, Jim Fan, a researcher at NVIDIA Corporation, has highlighted the promise of AI-powered robots in disaster management, suggesting that technology could play a crucial role in firefighting efforts.

In corporate news, Meta Platforms Inc. has revealed plans for performance-based job cuts, aiming for a 10% "non-regrettable attrition" rate by the end of the current performance cycle. Notably, Meta has acknowledged that Biden administration officials have urged staff to remove certain content from the platform.

In another development, Hewlett Packard Enterprise Company has reportedly secured a deal exceeding $1 billion to provide AI-optimized servers to Elon Musk’s social media platform, X.

Artificial Intelligence Developments

On the AI front, OpenAI has announced a new beta feature called “Tasks” for ChatGPT. This feature allows users to schedule tasks in advance, such as setting reminders for important events or daily updates like weather forecasts.

Lastly, the recent death of a former OpenAI engineer, Suchir Balaji, has sparked controversy. His mother claims he had sensitive documents concerning the practices of the AI company. Balaji was found dead in his San Francisco apartment, and authorities have ruled the incident as a suicide.
