Signal Introduces Phone-Free Registration for Android Users

Signal is enhancing its privacy features with a new update. Previously, users had to provide their phone number to create a Signal account. However, with this recent change, Android users can now register without sharing their contact information.

There is a small catch, though. Users who choose to sign up without a phone number will need to pay a one-time fee of $3 to register a username. This charge is not linked to the account itself. Instead, Signal will provide users with an account ID and a key, functioning like a username and password for account access. Users can also create an optional username to connect with other users on the platform.

Currently, this new registration method is being tested in the latest beta version for Android devices.

Valve Unveils the Steam Frame VR Headset

Valve has launched the Steam Frame, its brand-new virtual reality headset, following a ten-month delay due to supply chain issues. The device runs on SteamOS and is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, featuring 16GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, with an option for a microSD card. The headset offers impressive LCD displays at a resolution of 2160 x 2160 pixels and can support refresh rates from 72Hz to 144Hz, accompanied by Steam Frame Controllers.

While the headset is capable of streaming games from a Steam library, it also allows users to play certain Windows games and mixed-reality titles. As part of the purchase, users will receive the game Half-Life: Alyx.

However, the Steam Frame comes with a steep price tag, costing $1,059 for the 256GB model and $1,299 for the 1TB model. This high price may limit access for many gamers, especially when compared to similar gaming headsets available for lower prices.

Apple Launches the iOS 27 Update

Apple has rolled out the iOS 27 update, just a week after the release of the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max. A notable highlight of this update is an enhanced Siri.

With the new Siri, users can engage using natural language for requests and information. Siri is now more capable of understanding context, allowing it to help with tasks like finding appointments in messages or answering questions about on-screen content. New features also include visual searches in the Camera app and advanced image editing tools.

The iOS 27 update promises improved performance, with apps launching up to 30% faster and AirDrop transfers occurring up to 80% faster. Users can also easily customize their lock screen and timer settings, thanks to various new functionalities.

iOS 27 is available for a wide range of iPhone models, including from iPhone 12 to iPhone 18.

Rockstar Games Announces Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album

Rockstar Games has revealed that “Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album” will be the official soundtrack for the highly anticipated game. The album consists of 34 original tracks spanning various musical styles, with the first six singles already announced.

Some featured artists on the album include Yung Lean, Travis Scott, and Morgan Wallen. The soundtrack is produced in collaboration with Atlantic Records and will be available on major music streaming platforms, with limited-edition vinyl and CD versions as well.

Fans are eager for the album’s release, which aligns with the launch of Grand Theft Auto VI on November 19th for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.

Microsoft Responds with Emergency Windows 11 Update

On September 8, Microsoft delivered a substantial Patch Tuesday update for Windows 11, addressing around 1,000 issues, including more than 650 security vulnerabilities. This uptick in fixes was made possible by using AI systems, like Anthropic’s Mythos model and OpenAI’s GPT-5.5-Cyber, to identify flaws.

However, the September update itself had some issues, prompting Microsoft to issue an emergency out-of-band update. This eighth such update in 2023 targets various problems, including folder sharing on Hyper-V Linux virtual machines and certain functionalities of Remote Desktop Services.

The new update, labeled KB5129194, aims to resolve these pressing issues for Windows 11 users.
