FPT, a prominent technology company in Vietnam, has recently announced its role in founding the Ethical AI Committee alongside the Vietnam Software & IT Services Association (VINASA). This initiative was unveiled during an important technology discussion titled “AI Safety – Shaping Responsible Innovation” held in Hanoi, which featured industry experts, policymakers, and AI pioneers. One notable guest was Professor Yoshua Bengio from the Université de Montréal, regarded as a key figure in AI development. This new committee marks a major step in Vietnam’s journey toward ensuring ethical practices in artificial intelligence, reinforcing the country’s role in shaping international AI standards.
The Ethical AI Committee is set to play an essential role in guiding Vietnam’s future in AI technology. Its goal is to protect ethical standards in the creation, use, and implementation of AI tools. The committee aims to align innovations with public interests and promote a supportive environment for AI regulation. In addition to developing policies and assessing risks, the committee will act as a bridge for collaboration on a global level and offer informed advice to the Vietnamese government.
Among its tasks will be setting safety standards for AI, examining potential risks associated with its use, and raising awareness about responsible AI practices throughout the country. As nations around the world push for stronger AI regulations, this move signifies Vietnam’s dedication to participating in worldwide efforts to tackle the challenges and seize the opportunities presented by AI technology. International efforts such as the EU AI Act, OECD AI Principles, and UNESCO’s guidelines on ethical AI are establishing vital standards for transparency and fairness in AI governance. The committee is a testament to Vietnam’s commitment to fostering an AI environment where innovation prospers while adhering to ethical principles, helping to protect societal values and ensuring competitiveness on a global scale.
Professor Yoshua Bengio emphasized the importance of prioritizing safety and ethical development in AI as it continues to evolve. He highlighted that the challenge is not just to advance AI, but to do so in a way that serves humanity while upholding democratic values. Establishing a community focused on ethical AI will not only promote societal benefits and boost innovation but also safeguard against the risks of autonomous AI systems. The formation of the Ethical AI Committee could be a significant milestone in aligning Vietnam’s AI development with international standards.
Mr. Nguyen Tu Quang, the Vice Chairman of VINASA and head of the AI Committee, added that VINASA, with its more than 600 members in the ICT sector, is committed to monitoring market trends and technologies, especially AI. He pointed out that while AI opens up numerous possibilities for Vietnam in the global arena, it also comes with challenges concerning transparency, security, and ethics.
He stated that to harness AI’s potential sustainably, it’s crucial to develop solid legal and ethical frameworks. Rather than imposing restrictions, these frameworks will offer guidance to maximize the benefits of AI while minimizing potential drawbacks, ultimately supporting sustainable tech development in line with societal values.
Dr. Truong Gia Binh, the founder and chairman of FPT, expressed that this initiative reflects Vietnam’s commitment to responsible leadership in the realm of AI. As AI continues to evolve rapidly, the need for responsible management has become increasingly urgent. By adhering to global standards and collaborating with industry leaders, FPT is devoted to fostering an AI environment that benefits humanity and promotes sustainable innovation both in Vietnam and worldwide.
As a key player in Vietnam’s aim to lead in AI, FPT’s vision aligns with the government’s goals for an AI-focused nation. With over ten years of experience in AI R&D, the company has grown to include more than 1,500 skilled AI engineers and a comprehensive ecosystem that emphasizes education, innovation, and global partnerships. FPT is making significant strides through collaborations with leading technology firms like NVIDIA and Mila, helping create a new wave of AI professionals and offering tailored AI solutions for various industries.
As a founding member of the AI Alliance initiated by IBM and Meta, FPT is also advocating for ethical AI practices internationally. The company recently strengthened its influence by launching an AI partner ecosystem with global tech leaders and introducing the FPT AI Factory, a complete platform to support the full lifecycle of AI products—from infrastructure and platforms to applications designed to meet the evolving needs of the global AI sector.
