Stefanik Seeks Senate Support for UN Ambassador Nomination

Rep. Elise Stefanik, a Republican from New York, is actively engaging with senators as she seeks approval for her nomination as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations under President-elect Donald Trump. Over her first two days of meetings, she spoke with ten senators, emphasizing her strong support for Israel and her commitment to fighting antisemitism.

To kick off her confirmation journey, Stefanik met with several Republican senators, including Katie Britt of Alabama, MarkWayne Mullin of Oklahoma, and others. On the second day, she continued her discussions with senators like Mitch McConnell and Susan Collins to gather support for her nomination.

Stefanik shared pictures from her meetings on social media, highlighting key topics such as standing with Israel and promoting Trump’s "America First" national security policies.

Outgoing Senate Minority Leader McConnell expressed his backing, stating that the United Nations needs a leader like Stefanik who can deliver a clear message against authoritarian regimes and support for Israel. He emphasized the importance of holding international organizations accountable for their actions concerning Israel.

These meetings coincide with a controversial decision from the International Criminal Court, which issued arrest warrants for Israeli officials, prompting condemnation from President Biden and the Pentagon. Biden firmly rejected the court’s jurisdiction in this matter.

Stefanik, known for her unwavering support of Israel during its ongoing conflict with Hamas, has previously called for a reassessment of U.S. funding to the United Nations, particularly targeting specific agencies she believes foster antisemitism. She has been vocal about cutting funding to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) due to concerns over its operations.

In addition to her role in international relations, Stefanik has also been active in addressing rising antisemitism on college campuses, holding university leaders accountable for their responses to anti-Israel protests.

As she seeks to solidify her position, Stefanik remains focused on advocating for policies that align with her views on national security and support for Israel.
