US Embassy Discusses Detained Gangster’s Brother with Indian Officials

The US Embassy in New Delhi has confirmed that its officials recently met with Indian security personnel regarding Anmol Bishnoi, the younger brother of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi. Anmol was detained in California last week under suspicious circumstances.

This confirmation comes after reports indicated that the FBI’s New Delhi office had already held discussions with Indian officials about the feasibility of Anmol’s deportation or extradition. A spokesperson for the US Embassy stated, “U.S. Embassy officials met with Indian law enforcement partners to discuss this case, and the Embassy is in close contact with Indian authorities.”

Anmol was taken into custody by the US Immigration Department last Thursday, with sources noting that one of his travel documents was found to be forged. Reports suggest that he managed to flee to the US on May 15, 2022, using a fake passport under the name of a person named Bhanu. His scheme fell apart when officials discovered a forged reference letter related to his travel documents.

Following his detention, three FBI officials met with high-ranking members from various Indian agencies, including a senior official from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). During a 45-minute meeting, they discussed the evidence and cases against Anmol. The future of his deportation will depend on the outcome of his asylum application.

The FBI is also looking into Anmol’s alleged roles in serious crimes, including the murder of former Maharashtra minister Baba Siddique and an attack that occurred outside Bollywood actor Salman Khan’s residence. After the meeting, Indian agencies began revisiting their files to compile strong evidence against him.

Authorities in Rajasthan have revealed that Anmol is facing 31 cases, with 22 located in Rajasthan alone, and there are multiple arrest warrants outstanding against him. He has been linked to the shooting outside Salman Khan’s home on April 14. Recently, Mumbai Police disclosed that they retrieved an audio clip featuring Anmol conversing with Vicky Gupta, an arrested associate of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.

Moreover, police have indicated that they are examining Anmol’s possible involvement in the October 12 murder of Baba Siddique and have initiated extradition proceedings against him. Reports suggest that the Lawrence Bishnoi gang operates a criminal network spanning Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Delhi, and Anmol is believed to be coordinating the gang’s extortion activities from overseas.
