Shekhar Kapur’s film Bandit Queen has recently been at the center of a heated discussion after the filmmaker accused Prime Video of making unapproved edits to the movie. In response, Prime Video has firmly stated that they have not altered the film, and the version available on their platform is precisely the one provided by its distributor, NH Studioz.
Kapur expressed his frustration on social media, claiming that the streaming service had changed his film to the point where it no longer resembled his original vision. He raised this issue while commenting on a different topic regarding how streaming platforms treat Indian filmmakers. He questioned whether Bandit Queen had been modified without his approval and criticized the lack of respect shown towards Indian directors compared to their Western counterparts.
In his tweets, Kapur detailed the artistry involved in creating a film, emphasizing the hard work put into every detail, including the music by late artist Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. He expressed disappointment about how significant changes could undermine the performances and overall essence of the work.
As Prime Video stands by its statement, the focus now also turns to NH Studioz for more information on the situation. It remains unclear how Kapur will react to this clarification and if he plans to take any further steps regarding the matter.
