Punjab Kings Batter Shashank Singh Dreams of Playing Under Rohit Sharma
In a recent interview, Shashank Singh, a talented batter from the Punjab Kings (PBKS), shared his aspiration to play under the leadership of cricketing legend Rohit Sharma. He described Rohit as his dream captain and hopes for the chance to experience his guidance at least once in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Rohit Sharma is renowned for his success as a captain, holding the record for the most IPL titles, having secured five championships during his career with the Mumbai Indians (MI). Even though Rohit stepped back from captaincy duties last season, passing the reins to Hardik Pandya, he continues to be a vital player for the franchise.
Speaking on Shubhankar Mishra’s YouTube channel, Shashank expressed his admiration for the MI captain. He mentioned that he has heard countless positive stories about Rohit’s leadership from others in the cricketing world.
Shashank pointed out that Rohit is known for his support of players, often giving them ample opportunities to make their mark. He also noted Rohit’s cleverness as a captain and appreciated his humorous comments during matches.
Reflecting on his past experience, Shashank mentioned that he once batted alongside Rohit, although Rohit was not the captain at that time.
“Everyone says that he really backs his players and gives them plenty of chances. He is smart and funny on the field. If I could choose one captain to play under, it would definitely be Rohit Sharma,” Shashank shared. “He is from Bombay, and I’ve batted with him before. It’s my wish to play under his leadership.”
As IPL 2025 approaches, both Shashank and Rohit are gearing up for the season. Shashank emerged as a standout player in 2024 and was retained by Punjab Kings for the upcoming auction. Meanwhile, Rohit, who recently led India to victory in the 2025 Champions Trophy, was also retained by Mumbai Indians. Both players will be focused on helping their teams secure the IPL title this season.
