Pakistan’s Champions Trophy Campaign Ends in Disappointment
Pakistan cricket fans are expressing their frustration after the team concluded its Champions Trophy 2025 journey without securing a single victory. The final match against Bangladesh on February 27 at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium was washed out due to heavy rain, leading to its abandonment.
As a result, both Pakistan and Bangladesh ended their campaigns without a win, having faced defeats against New Zealand and India in their earlier matches. Pakistan finished last in Group A, marked by a disappointing net run rate of -1.087. This performance makes them the first host nation in Champions Trophy history to finish at the bottom of the group.
The campaign for Pakistan began on a tough note against New Zealand, where their bowlers struggled as Will Young scored 107 runs and Tom Latham contributed 118 runs, steering New Zealand to an impressive total of 320 runs for five wickets in their 50 overs. In response, Pakistan failed to chase down the target, losing the match by 60 runs due to a lack of aggression in their batting.
In their second match against India, Pakistan’s batting lineup faltered again, managing to post a modest total of 241 runs before getting all out. Poor fielding, including several dropped catches, compounded their difficulties as India successfully chased down the target with six wickets remaining, leaving Pakistan on the brink of elimination.
Overall, Pakistan’s champions campaign was lackluster, with the team struggling in all aspects of the game. Despite some potential talent, including standout performances by Khushdil Shah, who scored 107 runs across the two matches, the seasoned players Babar Azam and Fakhar Zaman fell short of expectations. Fans have not held back in their criticism, voicing their disappointment over the team’s performance.
