IonQ, Inc., a frontrunner in quantum computing and networking, has named Niccolo de Masi as its new President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO). This appointment is effective immediately, and Peter Chapman will continue in his role as Executive Chair.

Niccolo de Masi joins the CEO role with substantial experience, having been a member of IonQ’s board since 2021. He has a strong background as a public company leader, holding various senior management positions at companies like Monstermob Group, Resideo Technologies, and Glu Mobile. Notably, he served as the Director and CEO of dMY Squared Technology Group and was previously the CEO of dMY Technology Group III, the special purpose acquisition company that took IonQ public in 2021. Niccolo holds both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Physics from Cambridge University and began his professional journey with Siemens Solar and Technicolor.

Peter Chapman, IonQ’s Executive Chair, expressed his confidence in Niccolo, stating, “Over the past five years, Niccolo has significantly contributed to realizing our vision of being the world’s first pure-play public quantum computing company. We are excited to welcome him as our CEO as we continue to grow in the quantum era.”

In response to his new position, Niccolo de Masi shared his enthusiasm: “I am excited to lead IonQ during this crucial time for quantum computing. I firmly believe in IonQ’s mission and technology. I look forward to working with our talented team to build on the company’s achievements in 2025 and beyond.”

Throughout his career, Niccolo has played a key role in driving growth at companies like Planet PBC, Rush Street Interactive, and Genius Sports Group, raising over $3 billion in equity across various ventures. Beyond his role at IonQ, he is also actively involved with Rush Street Interactive and Planet PBC as a board member.

IonQ aims to continue its leadership in the ever-evolving field of quantum technology under Niccolo’s guidance.
