SEOUL: North Korean state media criticized U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent proposal regarding Gaza, labeling it as mere posturing and claiming that it represents a form of theft.
A commentary published by the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) expressed that the already slim hopes of the Palestinian people for safety and peace are now being further crushed by this plan, without naming Trump directly.
“The world is boiling over the U.S. announcement,” the KCNA report stated.
This commentary comes in response to Trump’s surprising plan to relocate the residents of Gaza and transform the area, which has been devastated by conflict, into what he referred to as the “Riviera of the Middle East.”
The KCNA also took aim at other controversial statements from the Trump administration, such as proposals to take control of the Panama Canal and Greenland, and the plan to rename the “Gulf of Mexico” to the “Gulf of America.”
“The U.S. needs to wake up from its outdated fantasies and refrain from undermining the dignity and sovereignty of other nations,” the report continued, branding the U.S. as a “ferocious robber.”
Trump previously held unprecedented summits with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and has often mentioned their personal connection.
In a recent statement, Trump expressed his intention to reach out to Kim once more; however, North Korean media has not provided much commentary on Trump’s second term, focusing instead on what it sees as serious threats from the U.S. and its allies.
North Korea has taken a strong stance on the situation in Gaza, directing blame towards Israel for the violence and categorizing the United States as an “accomplice.”
