Mahakumbh 2025: Millions Gather for Sacred Festival in Prayagraj
In a grand spiritual celebration, over three million devotees have participated in a holy dip at Triveni Sangam in Prayagraj on Thursday. The Mahakumbh, which began on January 13, is set to continue until February 26, with organizers anticipating an incredible attendance of 450 million people throughout the event.
The Mahakumbh is renowned as one of the largest religious gatherings globally and attracts countless devotees and spiritual leaders. Excitement is building in Prayagraj as visitors from all over the world arrive to take part in the sacred rituals.
On the evening of Thursday, a vibrant procession marked the entrance of Jagatguru Shankaracharya Dwarka Sharda Pithadhish Swami, Shri Sadananda Saraswati Ji Maharaj, into the Mahakumbh area, which featured participation from saints and religious leaders from all thirteen akharas.
As of January 16, the total number of people who have taken a holy dip at Sangam reached over seventy million. The next significant bath, known as "snan," will take place on January 29. Additional important dates include February 3 for Basant Panchami, February 12 for Maghi Purnima, and the final ceremonial events on February 26, coinciding with Maha Shivratri.

Bihar Governor Arif Mohammad Khan spoke about the essence of Mahakumbh, stating that it reflects the fundamental ideals of Indian culture, where all differences fade away and people unite in devotion.
The festival has also drawn international visitors; one devotee from Johannesburg, South Africa, expressed his joy at finally attending the Mahakumbh after hearing about it for years. Many devotees continue to flock to the Triveni Sangam to partake in this sacred experience.
In preparation for the massive event, Uttar Pradesh officials are actively working to ensure the safety and smooth operation of the festivities. Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwidevi recently assessed the administrative arrangements, highlighting the importance of supporting local efforts in managing the influx of attendees.
