The upcoming edition of the Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas (PBD) will take place in Kolkata this January, as announced by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Saturday, October 3.
Scheduled for January 7 to 9, 2027, the three-day event will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This will be the 19th edition of the PBD, which aims to bring together the Indian diaspora from around the world.
The event is organized by the MEA in collaboration with the West Bengal government. The Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas honors Mahatma Gandhi, who returned to India from South Africa on January 9, 1915.
During the closing session, President Droupadi Murmu will present the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman awards. The convention will also feature a special segment called ‘Youth PBD,’ which aims to engage young leaders, entrepreneurs, professionals, and innovators from the Indian community.
According to the MEA, this flagship event will continue to strengthen the bonds between the Indian diaspora and their homeland, recognizing their significant contributions both to India and the global community.
