Maire Secures New Contracts for Urea Technology in Canada

Maire, through its subsidiary Stamicarbon, has recently announced new contracts connected to its NX STAMI Urea technology in Canada. This marks a significant step in expanding their operations related to sustainable fertilizer solutions.

The first contract involves the construction of a urea and Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) production plant for Genesis Fertilizers located in Saskatchewan. This facility is designed to operate with low carbon emissions, thanks to its innovative carbon capture unit.

Furthermore, the second contract pertains to providing a High-Pressure Urea Stripper for Nutrien’s facility in Alberta. This equipment will improve the plant’s efficiency and reliability during operations.

The Genesis Fertilizers project includes a comprehensive Process Design Package and licensing rights, which will take effect pending a Final Investment Decision from the client. The plant, based in Belle Plaine, Saskatchewan, is expected to produce 2,500 metric tons of urea daily, with operations slated to begin by 2029. Notably, this facility will be the first low-carbon nitrogen fertilizer plant proposed in Canada, integrating carbon capture and sequestration technology. Stamicarbon plans to utilize its specialized Flash urea melt technology, aiming to optimize operational efficiency while reducing steam consumption.

Additionally, the facility will feature a DEF production unit capable of generating 1,500 metric tons per day. DEF, often referred to as AdBlue in Europe, is a solution that helps minimize nitrogen oxide emissions from diesel engines. The design for this DEF production aligns with ISO 22241 standards, allowing for the direct creation of high-quality DEF from urea solutions produced in various facilities, thus cutting costs.

The second deal with Nutrien is focused on supplying advanced High-Pressure Urea Stripper equipment for their operations in Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta. This proprietary equipment is engineered with innovative techniques and materials to enhance efficiency, reduce downtime, and promote reliability.

Alessandro Bernini, the CEO of Maire, stated, “These awards clearly demonstrate our leadership in urea technology solutions, especially in important regions like North America.”

These contracts are significant steps forward in Maire’s commitment to sustainable practices in the fertilizer industry, contributing positively to both operational efficiency and environmental standards.
