South India Cotton Yarn Prices Hold Steady Amid Sluggish Demand

Sluggish Demand for South Indian Cotton Yarn

The South Indian cotton yarn market is currently experiencing sluggish demand, particularly in prominent markets like Mumbai and Tiruppur. Prices have remained steady but are under pressure due to weaker overall demand in the sector. Many buyers are opting for polyester and polyester-cotton yarns instead of cotton yarn, mainly because cotton prices are relatively high.

Traders believe several factors are contributing to this shift. For one, there’s a seasonal transition in the textile market. As demand for cotton yarn weakens, many buyers are choosing more affordable yarn alternatives. Additionally, lower garment export figures from India and slower fabric purchases are leading to a more cautious approach from buyers, who are not looking to make new purchases beyond their immediate needs.

One trader in Mumbai mentioned, “The demand for cotton yarn is very low right now, especially for carded counts. We’re seeing a trend shift toward PC and polyester yarns, and interest in cotton yarn has really dried up. Buyers seem to be waiting for a potential price drop before committing to any new orders. As long as cotton yarn prices remain high, demand is likely to stay weak.”

In the Mumbai market, various types of carded yarn remained at stable prices. For instance, different varieties of warp and weft carded yarns were trading within a certain price range (prices not specified here). Prices for other products included combed warp and carded weft, and details reflected ongoing steady pricing amidst the demand slowdown.

Overall, the cotton yarn market faces significant challenges, with buyers taking a wait-and-see approach due to high prices and modest demand. This cautious stance may continue unless there is a noticeable change in pricing trends.
