New-season cotton has started to arrive in India as the country prepares for the formal marketing season. This comes amid concerns about dry weather in both the US and China, which are helping to boost global cotton prices. The combination of strong international market signals and high prices for kapas (unginned cotton) in India may create more competition among private ginners for this year’s crop. This, in turn, could limit the immediate buying opportunities for the Cotton Corporation of India (CCI).
So far, the initial cotton arrivals have mostly come from northern India, especially from Haryana, with parts of Rajasthan also seeing some activity. However, Punjab has reported negligible arrivals up to this point. Estimates suggest that around [insert figure] bales of [insert weight] kg have come in, with about [insert figure] bales from Haryana and around [insert figure] bales each from upper and lower Rajasthan. Notably, these arrivals have occurred several weeks ahead of the official start of India’s new cotton season, which kicks off on October [insert date].

However, the overall market remains supported by global influences. Cotton futures on the ICE exchange are rising due to worries about dry conditions impacting major growing regions in the US and China.
