Chandigarh: AAP Raises Concerns Over Waste Management at Dadumajra Dumping Ground

The Chandigarh unit of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has voiced serious concerns regarding the management of legacy waste at the Dadumajra dumping site. They referenced a feasibility study conducted by Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL) that reportedly indicated the presence of 9 to 13 meters of legacy waste still buried at the location.

AAP councillor Yogesh Dhingra questioned the effectiveness of previous waste management efforts, noting, “If significant funds have been invested in scientific waste processing, bio-mining, and cleaning up legacy waste, why is there still such a large amount remaining underground?”

Former mayor and AAP councillor Kuldeep Kumar Dhalor highlighted the ongoing struggles faced by residents living near the dump, including persistent foul odors, pollution, and fears of contaminated water. He emphasized that the environmental and health concerns affecting the local community require immediate action.

In light of these findings, the party has called for an independent, high-level investigation into the situation, urging that the results be made available to the public. They also stressed the importance of taking swift measures to reduce pollution and provide relief to the residents around Dadumajra.

AAP leaders pointed out that the information from the feasibility study has reignited worries about the success of current waste management strategies at the site, calling for increased transparency and accountability in future remediation efforts.
