Ukraine’s Government Faces Changes as Prime Minister Steps Down
Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko resigned on Sunday, prompting President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to offer her a “new, important” role amid the ongoing conflict with Russia. In her announcement made on social media, Svyrydenko expressed pride in leading the government during challenging times but did not specify her next position.
“I remain ready to serve the Ukrainian state and support efforts to defend our national interests and achieve peace,” she stated.
Zelenskyy, who continues in his role under martial law due to the war preventing elections, noted that this move is part of a broader political change in the country. He mentioned that he is assigning major foreign policy tasks to seasoned officials to enhance Ukraine’s international relationships.
This reshuffle is the fourth major overhaul of Zelenskyy’s administration since the onset of Russia’s invasion, showcasing his intent to inject fresh energy into his wartime strategy. The president also hinted at upcoming changes to the leadership of Ukraine’s law enforcement agencies.
Svyrydenko, who became Prime Minister in July 2025 at 39, previously served as Ukraine’s economy minister and played a vital role in an agreement with the United States aimed at bolstering economic ties and security commitments.
Following her departure, Zelenskyy convened a meeting with top officials, indicating that further adjustments to his cabinet might be on the horizon.
