Rajpal Yadav Sentenced in Cheque Bounce Case

The Delhi High Court has sentenced actor Rajpal Yadav to three months in prison due to a cheque bounce case. This decision came after the court noted that Yadav repeatedly failed to follow through on settlement promises made in front of the court. Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma announced this verdict regarding multiple cases filed by Murli Projects Private Limited.

Yadav is sentenced to three months in each of the seven cases, but all sentences will run at the same time. In addition to imprisonment, the court ordered him to pay ₹1.05 crore for each case. His wife, Radha Rajpal Yadav, was also ordered to pay a fine of over ₹5 lakh for each matter.

Repeated Failures Noted

During the hearings, the court highlighted Yadav’s inability to resolve the disputes despite being given numerous chances. Justice Sharma pointed out, “He and his lawyer made various statements and assurances, yet he did not fulfill his commitments.”

Yadav has been given two months to appeal the decision in a higher court.

Background of the Case

This legal matter dates back to a conviction from May 2024 when a sessions court sentenced Yadav to six months for a similar cheque bounce situation. The Delhi High Court later suspended that sentence after Yadav’s team promised a peaceful resolution. The dispute was then sent to the Delhi High Court Mediation Centre, but attempts to settle it fell through.

Despite being given multiple chances, Yadav failed to pay several amounts he had agreed to, including ₹2.5 crore, which he requested to pay in installments.

Previous Developments

In February 2026, the court instructed Yadav to turn himself in after recognizing that he had not complied with earlier orders. His request for more time was denied. He surrendered on February 5 and remained in custody before being granted temporary relief after paying ₹1.5 crore to the complainants.

As the case continues to unfold, further developments will be watched closely, particularly regarding Yadav’s potential appeal.
