Morkel Highlights Team Loyalty Amid Sooryavanshi’s Anticipated Debut

India’s bowling coach, Morne Morkel, has come forward to explain the team’s decision to postpone Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s entrance into international cricket. He believes that it would be unfair to sideline established players like Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson, especially with the excitement surrounding the young batting talent.

Ahead of the second T20I match against England, Morkel told reporters that the team is focused on rewarding players who have consistently performed well, rather than making changes based solely on public enthusiasm.

Morkel reiterated that the current opening pair of Sharma and Samson have proven themselves over time and deserve the team’s trust. “We must acknowledge that we have outstanding players, like Abhishek, who has been at the top of T20 rankings, and Sanju, who was Player of the World Cup,” Morkel said.

Vaibhav, who gained attention after a stellar IPL season with Rajasthan Royals, is yet to make his international debut. He finished as the leading run-scorer in that tournament, which added to the anticipation among fans.

Supporting Established Players

Abhishek Sharma has become one of the most potent T20 players in India, showcasing his skills with impressive performances, including a rapid century against Zimbabwe and a remarkable 135 runs off just 54 balls against England. He set a record as the fastest player to hit 100 T20I sixes.

Sanju Samson, on the other hand, has had a mix of recent performances but remains a reliable player, particularly due to his significant contribution to India’s T20 World Cup victory earlier this year, where he was named Player of the Tournament. Morkel emphasized that Samson’s strong IPL season played a vital role in the team’s decision to continue supporting him.

“It’s only fair to back your players,” Morkel stated. “While there’s excitement surrounding Vaibhav, we must also respect what our experienced players have achieved.”

He pointed out that trusting established players boosts overall team morale and sends a clear message of support within the squad. “It’s vital to show that we believe in our players, as it creates confidence throughout the group,” he mentioned.

As India focuses on consistency at the top of the batting order, Sooryavanshi’s international debut may take a bit longer, even as fans eagerly await the chance to see one of the country’s brightest young talents shine on a global platform.
