Salman Khan’s upcoming film, Maatrubhumi, previously known as Battle of Galwan, is facing delays as it awaits approval from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). Reports indicate that the board has not yet granted the film a clearance certificate, which has put its release plans in doubt.
Originally scheduled to debut on April 17, just before Eid, the film’s release was postponed to target the Independence Day weekend in August. However, with certification still pending, missing this date seems likely as well.
Maatrubhumi is directed by Apoorva Lakhia and produced by Salma Khan under the Salman Khan Films banner. The movie stars Salman Khan as Colonel Santosh Babu, who led Indian troops during the 2020 clash in Galwan Valley. Chitrangda Singh plays the female lead, and Abhilash Chaudhary and Ankur Bhatia are also part of the cast. Himesh Reshammiya has composed the film’s music.
The project has stirred controversy even before its release. After the teaser was shared online, many users on the Chinese platform Weibo criticized it for supposedly misrepresenting the Galwan clash.
Earlier this year, the Ministry of External Affairs clarified that it had no objections to the film, dismissing rumors to the contrary. Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal explained that filmmaking issues in India are handled by the appropriate authorities, and the ministry does not interfere.
Sources have mentioned that changes were made to the film after its title was altered from Battle of Galwan to Maatrubhumi. The teaser was launched on December 27, 2025, coinciding with Salman Khan’s 60th birthday. As the CBFC has yet to provide certification, the future release date for Maatrubhumi remains uncertain.
