Global Biofuels Alliance Welcomes New Fellows in Sustainable Research
New Delhi: The Global Biofuels Alliance (GBA), based in India, has announced the selection of 15 early-career researchers from top universities and research institutions around the world for its Global Biofuel Champion Fellowship.
Each selected fellow will receive a grant of $15,000 to support their research and will collaborate with the Alliance over the next two years. Their focus will be on fostering research, sharing knowledge, and promoting international cooperation in sustainable biofuels.
Among the chosen fellows are two researchers from India: Ruchi Agrawal from The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) and Abhisek Sahoo from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi. The fellowship program unites researchers specializing in biofuels, sustainable energy systems, transport decarbonization, and the circular economy.
The selection process involved a rigorous three-stage evaluation, with applicants from 32 countries. The fellows represent notable institutions like the University of Michigan, the University of Manchester, Monash University, and Polytechnique Montréal, as well as organizations from Africa, Brazil, and India.
The goal of the fellowship is to strengthen international collaboration by linking academic research with policy and industry initiatives. It emphasizes cooperative research, knowledge sharing, and developing scalable solutions in bioenergy.
During the announcement, petroleum secretary Neeraj Mittal stated that India’s bioenergy efforts could serve as a model for other countries, showcasing how supportive policies can yield both economic and environmental advantages.
Josh Wycliffe, the director of the GBA, highlighted the organization’s commitment to a long-term engagement strategy, ensuring that the fellows will continue to contribute to global biofuel research and policy even after the fellowship concludes.
The Global Biofuels Alliance is a worldwide initiative that includes 34 member countries and 14 international organizations. Its mission is to promote the adoption of sustainable biofuels through cooperation on policy, technology sharing, capacity building, and international partnerships.
