The 12th World Green Economy Summit (WGES) is set to begin on October 21 at the Dubai World Trade Centre. This year’s theme is “From Success to Scale: Showcasing the Green Economy.”
Over two days, the summit will bring together leaders from various fields, including decision-makers, business executives, investors, and experts in resilience and infrastructure. It aims to connect government officials, private sector representatives, and academics to discuss practical solutions that can be applied on a larger scale, focusing on how to accelerate the shift toward a low-carbon economy while promoting economic growth alongside environmental protection.
Organized by the World Green Economy Organisation (WGEO), the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, and the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), this year’s event will emphasize a crucial moment in the global shift to a green economy. Organizers state that the transition is no longer just a goal for the future; it is happening now, driven by effective technologies and innovative business models that offer real benefits.
Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, who is the Vice Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy and MD and CEO of DEWA, expressed that the summit has become a key platform for global discussions on climate change and the movement towards a sustainable economy. It aims to speed up the adoption of climate solutions and promote successful models that can help bolster growth and resilience across various sectors.
The summit will highlight the importance of moving from merely showcasing successful practices to expanding and implementing them effectively.
The organizers plan to cover four main themes: energy technology and infrastructure, business strategy and transition, water and food security, and finance. Additionally, they will explore the role of artificial intelligence as a powerful tool for advancing climate-friendly projects. Governance will also be discussed as an essential aspect that connects ambition with practical results, alongside supporting elements like supply chains and the circular economy.
Overall, the summit aims to demonstrate that the green transition is already in progress, highlighting innovative solutions in clean energy, sustainable infrastructure, and green finance, among other areas. These initiatives support both regional and global climate goals, reinforcing Dubai and the UAE’s leadership in climate action and providing models that can be scaled up.
