Baku Hosts Special Yoga Session Ahead of International Day of Yoga 2026
Baku, Azerbaijan – On June 15, the Indian Embassy in Baku held a special yoga event at India House to kick off the celebrations for the upcoming International Day of Yoga in 2026.
The gathering attracted a diverse group of attendees, including a Member of Parliament from Azerbaijan, various ambassadors, diplomats, and yoga enthusiasts from both Azerbaijan and the Indian community.
Renowned Azerbaijani yoga instructor Irada Aliyeva led the session, which included a variety of yoga poses such as Suryanamaskar, alongside breathing exercises (pranayama) and meditation (dhyana).
During the event, Ambassador Abhay Kumar welcomed the guests and expressed his appreciation for their participation. He emphasized the many physical, mental, and spiritual advantages of yoga, urging everyone to incorporate it into their daily lives.
The ambassador also noted the significant rise in the global popularity of yoga since the United Nations designated June 21 as the International Day of Yoga.
He warmly invited all participants to join in the grand celebrations planned for June 21, 2026.
The event was made even more enjoyable with live performances by talented Azerbaijani artists, followed by a feast of delicious Indian dishes.
This yoga session highlights the Embassy’s commitment to promoting overall wellness and strengthening the friendship between India and Azerbaijan through the practice of yoga.
Since its inception in 2015, the International Day of Yoga has been celebrated each year on June 21.
